About Us

THT Canada Team, Southern Kenya, July 2011

At the core of every Teachers Helping Teachers trip is the desire to share the educational expertise and best practices developed in Canada. Overwhelming as a classroom of 40 may seem, the hunger for learning in the communities we've visited is tangible and exciting.
Canada's educational system is blessed with the gift of highly trained professionals. We believe that the same high quality of education we enjoy in Canada is a right for every child. You can be a part of developing the the capacity for change and growth through hands-on practice, modeled teaching, and professional development.

At the core of your experience - where ever your travels with Teachers Helping Teachers may take you - will be a commitment to service: to the community, to the children, and to the development of educational excellence. One of the way in which we've realized this commitment is through building - literally - the foundations for student learning. Under the expert direction of Kenyan builders, our teacher volunteers in 2010, 2011 and 2012 lent a hand in creating the future classrooms of the children they worked with.

Every member of the Teachers Helping Teachers team is a leader. Responsibilities and decision making are shared here. But fear not, you are never alone. Leadership teams are formed and guided to ensure that everyone is given the chance to lead, but no one is left without support.

Wisdom can come in small packages. The children of the communities in which we work have hearts and minds as wide open as the plains of the Mara. This experience reminds us that though we are teachers, we are first and always learners. Among our fondest memories of our time in rural Kenya were those moments in which we allowed ourselves to be led... to learn and see this new world through the eyes of a child.
